On Wednesday, February 12, Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, received Federal Deputy Hugo Leal, who facilitated the meeting with the Russian delegation. During the meeting, Vyacheslav Manuylov, Deputy Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow, presented the International Municipal BRICS Forum 2025 (IMBRICS Forum) to the Minister.
Members of the delegation noted that Russia is a major supplier of fertilisers to Brazil and expressed interest in holding an IMBRICS Forum event in the country ahead of the BRICS Summit of Heads of State, which will take place in Brazil in July. One of the topics of interest to the countries is cooperation in fertiliser production, with a focus on new Russian technologies. The event will also provide an opportunity for Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) to present its programmes aimed at ensuring food security.
In the context of the Forum, discussions on agriculture, food security, and fertilisers take on a strategic role, given the shared challenges faced by BRICS countries and their importance for sustainable development and global food sovereignty.
Also participating in the meeting were:
Olga Nikolaeva, Advisor to the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow;
Maria Osipova, Deputy Head for cooperation with foreign partners of the Directorate for the preparation and holding of the IMBRICS Forum;
Henrique Domingues, Deputy Head for International Projects of the Directorate for the preparation and holding of the IMBRICS Forum;
Pedro Pugliese, IMBRICS Forum Ambassador for Brazil;
Jean Manfredini, Deputy Head of the Secretariat for Trade and International Relations of Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
