From 1 to 3 July 2025, the city of Cuiabá (State of Mato Grosso, Brazil) hosted the fourth edition of Cidades Inovadoras — a key regional platform aimed at fostering technological solutions, sustainable growth, and digital transformation in Brazilian municipalities.

The event was organised by the State Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation of Mato Grosso (SECITECI), the State Technological Park, and the Faespe Foundation, with the support of the Association of Municipalities of Mato Grosso (AMM), SEBRAE, the State Court of Auditors, and FAPEMAT.

The programme featured workshops, expert panels and lectures focused on the integration of artificial intelligence in public administration, the development of digital services, as well as sustainability and the concept of smart cities.

The event was officially opened by Luciana Santos, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil, who also announced new investments in the region’s digital infrastructure. Other notable participants included Allan Kardec, Minister of the State of Mato Grosso; Vinicius Brasilino, Chair of the State Youth Council; as well as municipal leaders, academics and representatives of the private sector.

The International Municipal BRICS Forum (IMBRICS Forum) Directorate was represented at the event by Henrique Domingues, Deputy Head for International Projects, who praised the event’s contribution to creating a platform for sharing advanced municipal practices and strengthening ties between BRICS countries in the areas of digitalisation and sustainable development.

One of the highlights of the event was the Cidades Inovadoras Award, which recognised municipalities with the most effective innovation initiatives. Award winners received professional development opportunities and invitations to take part in international visits, including the Smart City Expo in Barcelona and trips to leading cities in the field of digitalisation, such as Curitiba.

The event marked another important step in strengthening the innovation ecosystem of Mato Grosso, raised the region’s visibility on the international stage, and opened new avenues for cooperation among BRICS countries in digital and sustainable urban development.
